There is so much that is good about learning to make pottery! To take a lump of clay and transform it into something beautiful – that is also functional, is so incredibly satisfying. A spoon rest is one of those things that is functional, but also has so much versatility in terms of design. There is no end to how creative you can get with your design.
Working from a template and mold, you will make three spoon rests that reflects your own own style! One spoon rest will be similar to the one shown using a hosta leaf (or bring your own leaf from home), another will be the more traditional spoon shaped spoon rest, and last will give you more opportunity to tap into your own creativity.
The first day of this two day workshop will be spent making the actual spoon rests. Depending on how much detail you include, or how much you branch out on your own design, it will take about a little over an hour. The second class will also take around an hour for glazing.
The class is limited to 8 people, and will take place on Tuesday evening, July 13 and 20, from 7 – 9 pm.

Join us on August 11 and 18 from 6 – 8 pm to make the plate shown, or one very similar, that reflects your very own creativity! This plate, which is about 9 inches wide, and is oven and dishwasher safe, microwavable and food safe. This plate differs from the other plate workshop in that this plate is smaller and the plate has a rim. Because of the methods used in making the plate it is very hard to add a rim on the other method that will be used.
During this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own plate. The first day, which will take about 2 hours, we will make the plate, and cover different ways to decorate it. Once the plate is made, you can finish it any way you want. A number of different methods of decorating will be covered, including use of texture, use of underglazes and stencils, and sgraffito, a popular Italian method of decorating pottery. The second scheduled day, we will finish the plate. Depending on how much is done the first class, the second class could take an hour to 2 hours. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 2 weeks of you finishing it.
No experience necessary!
The class is for 2 – 6 people. Grab a friend and make an evening of it.
I have been teaching pottery and ceramics in a variety of situations, for all age groups, for more than 30 years. I absolutely love teaching and sharing my love of clay with others.

This 3 day workshop will take place during mid-winter break, February 21, 22, and 23, from 1 -3 pm. During this workshop, students will design and construct from clay, a fairy house or toad house.
Day 1 – February 21- Construct the House – wall and roof, textures for both, windows, and doors
Day 2 – February 22 – Adorn the house – chimney, trees, flowers, mushrooms…
Day 3 – February 23 – Paint/glaze using underglazes.
The houses will then be fired and a clear gloss coat of glaze applied over everything. Houses should be ready within 2 weeks of the last class for pick up.
