SUMMARY:Ceramic Forest - Drop In Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Make a forest of textured trees. Working with a prepared  slab of clay\, you can make as many trees as you can fit on the clay.  All ages welcome.  I have made these trees for many years\, and they are always one of my best sellers at holiday craft fairs.  Mounting drift wood will be available for an additional cost. Come back in two weeks to glaze your trees. Trees left for more than a month will be recycled.  \nYou can pick up your trees 3 weeks from when you make it.  \nThis is the project for Sunday 11/3. The drop in workshop is offered from 2 – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about half an hour to make the trees. You can come any time between those hours – just plan on half an hour to make the project. \nA different project will be offered every weekend. Projects for the fall include\, tree luminaires\, and ornaments\, and a plate for santa. Once glazed and fired the pots will be dishwasher safe\, microwaveable and oven proof. For more information about future projects. \nPayment may be made through this website or at the door with cash. \nPlease review my studio rules.\n

SUMMARY:Learn to Throw - Nov/Dec
DESCRIPTION:Learn to throw on a potter’s wheel. Group lessons limited to 4 students. This class is specifically for adults.  Price is for 8 two hour classes and includes materials. The class will cover centering\, throwing techniques\, trimming and glazing . Techniques to decorate a pot\, including adding clay\, carving\, sgraffito\, and use of underglazes and washes will be covered. \nThis is primarily focusing on beginner techniques. Click here for a course outline .     8 week class outline.   If you have never worked with clay before\, I would highly suggest  taking the 4 week Intro to Ceramics class\, first – or even the “One Day Intro to Throwing Class.”  If you have taken this class before\, I have suggested a modified version of this class for you. Sign up for this class\, and we can work on the projects detailed in this post. This Adult class will take place Friday evenings starting November 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, December 6\, 13\, 20 and 27\, from 6 – 8 pm.  \nNo refunds allowed\, unless I am able to fill your seat prior to class starting. Throwing on the wheel requires a certain amount of strength\, it also requires that your hands will get dirty. If you are not sure you have the strength to do it\, or will appreciate the wonderful tactile nature of the art\, I would suggest an intro to throwing class first.  \n  It will run 8 weeks. If you miss a class\, you can sign up for an open studio\, at your cost.  \nThis is a good class for folks who have taken an Intro to Ceramics and are looking for a more structured class setting to improve throwing skills.  \nPlease be sure to familiarize yourself with the studio rules prior to signing up.

SUMMARY:Drop In Sunday - Santa Gnome Luminaire
DESCRIPTION:This gnome pictured is raw clay that has yet to be fired. Finished pictures coming soon.  \nSunday\, November 10\,  we will be making a Santa Gnome Luminaire. The luminaires are made using the same process as that of the ghosts and trees. Use it to decorate your holiday table\, or add it as a focal point for a seasonal bouquet. \nYou will be provided with a slab of clay\, and a paper stencil. You can add texture using any one of the more than 20 rolling pins in the studio. You will then trace around the stencil on the clay\, and then fold the clay up to make the cone shape.  Cut out holes  and it can be used as a luminaire. Add a nose\, boots and beard\, and any other decoration you think appropriate.  \nFolding the clay up to make the cone shape is a little bit tricky\, so it may not be an appropriate activity for the very young\, but I will leave it to you to decide what your child can do or can’t do. (It is basically the same process that was used to make the ghost) \nThe cost is $15.  \nCome back in 2  weeks to glaze your gnome. Use our nearly full pallette of underglazes to paint your gnome\, and a clear glaze on top to make it shine. Or\, you can take the bisqued piece home and paint with your own acrylic paints.  \nYour gnome will be ready for pick up  within 3 weeks from glazing. This is the project for Sunday 11/10. The drop in workshop is offered from 2  – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about an hour to make the gnome. You can come any time between those hours – just plan on for  an hour to make the gnome. A different project will be offered every weekend. Once glazed and fired the pots will be dishwasher safe\, microwaveable and oven proof.  \nPlease familiarize yourself with studio rules\n

DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner class – no experience needed!  All ages over 12 years welcome! (Younger children should be accompanied) Even if you are experienced\, though\, this will still be a great class! \nJoin us on November 14 and 21 from 4 – 6  pm to make a bowl\, decorated with leaves\, or use one of 20 different rolling pins to add a unique design!  This bowl\, which is about 10 inches wide\, and is oven and dishwasher safe\, microwavable and food safe. Pictured below is the mushroom rolling pin.  \nDuring this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own bowl.  The first day\, which will take about 1 hour\,  we will make the bowl. The bowl is made from a slab of clay\, molded\, and then finished on the wheel. Once the bowl is made\, you can finish it any way you want. The second scheduled day\, you will glaze the bowl. These bowls will be glazed using a method of applying a colored glaze then wiping it back to highlight the design of the rolling pin. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 3 weeks of you finishing it.  \n \nThe workshop will take place Thursday afternoons  November 14 and 21 from 4 – 6   pm.  \nPlease arrive promptly at 4 pm when the class starts.
