SUMMARY:Make a Free Form Bowl - Drop In Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Using a prepared slab of clay\, you will be directed to create your own free form bowl. Once glazed and fired\, it will be dishwasher safe\, microwavable and oven proof – if protected from thermal shock. Using a slab of clay\, about 8 x 8 inches\, you will be shown how to create undulating curves over which the glaze will flow. You will stretch and drape the clay over a mold – allowing it to also be functional. Use it as a nut bowl\, candy\, or whatever one would use a bowl.  \nCome back two weeks later\, and glaze your bowl. In this project you will use studio glazes that are known to flow as shown in the picture. \nYou can pick up your bowl within 3 weeks from when you glaze it. \nThis is the project for Sunday 3/3 .The drop in workshop is offered from 2 – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about half an hour to make one piece. A different project will be offered each week.  \nPayment may be made through this website or at the door with cash. Attending a drop in studio does not count towards the prerequisite requirements for attending open studio. \nClick here to pay.\n

SUMMARY:Make a Spaghetti Bowl
DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner class – no experience needed!  All ages over 12 years welcome! (Younger children should be accompanied)  \nJoin us on March 6 and 13 from 11 am to 1 pm to make the plate shown\, or one very similar\, that reflects your very own creativity!  This plate\, which is about 9 inches wide\, and is oven and dishwasher safe\, microwavable and food safe. It is deep\, bowl like\, making it a good spaghetti bowl. \nDuring this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own plate.  The first day\, which will take about 2 hours\, we will make the plate\, and cover different ways to decorate it. The plate is made from a slab of clay\, molded\, and then finished on the wheel. Once the plate is made\, you can finish it any way you want. A number of different methods of decorating  will be covered\, including use of texture\, use of underglazes and stencils\, and sgraffito\, a popular Italian method of decorating pottery (as shown on the plate pictured).  The focus will be on using the sgraffito method\,  you can finish it as you like\, but the class focus will be on creating a  concentric sgraffito design of black\, white\, and a minimal amount of red as accent. The second scheduled day\, we will finish the plate. Depending on how much is done the first class\, the second class could take an hour to 2 hours. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 3 weeks of you finishing it.  \nThe workshop will take place March 6 and 13 from 11 am to 1 pm. The first class will be very short – a little over an hour.  Options for decorating the outside of the bowl will also be covered.  The second class will likely take the full 2 hours.  \nThe class is limited to 6 people. Grab a friend and have some fun\, then plan a great lunch out at any of Groton’s wonderful restaurants. \nPrevious student work: \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\nI have been teaching pottery and ceramics in a variety of situations\, for all age groups\, for more than 30 years. SUMMARY:Drop In Sunday - Make a Street Number Plaque
DESCRIPTION:Working from a prepared slab of clay\,  you will be led through the steps to make a street number plaque for your house.  You will have a prepared slab of clay\, about 8 x 11\, from which to make the plaque. You should bring your own number template to work from – knowing you only have an 8 x 11 slab of clay to work from. I would suggest using half the clay for the base of the plaque (8 x 6)  and the rest of the clay to add the decorations. (I made the sample product on the fly\, so the numbers are no where near perfect). \nCome back two weeks later\, and glaze your plaque. In this project\, a full palette of underglazes will be available. \nYou can pick up your plaque within 3 weeks from when you glaze them. \nThis is the project for Sunday 3/24. The drop in workshop is offered from 2 – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about half an hour to make the plaque. A different project will be offered each week.  \nTo pre-buy a seat\, click here\nPayment may be made through this website or at the door with cash. Attending a drop in studio does not count towards the prerequisite requirements for attending open studio. \n
