SUMMARY:Pottery Decoration
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is focused on introducing potters to different techniques of pottery decoration.  New potters and those who are more experienced will likely get something out of this workshop as we will cover more than 13 different decorating techniques. After you have learned how to make the pot\, learning different methods of decoration is important. It is a chance to develop a style that is yours – going beyond relying on glazes for decoration.  \n\nWeek 1 : Decorating leatherhard clay\n\napplique\nrolling pins and texture: making stamps\ncarving\nreshaping\nUsing leaves\n\n\nWeek 2: Decorating leatherhard clay\n\npaper resist\nwater etching \nunderglaze decorations; sgraffito\, mishima\nThis is an example of paper transfer. A really easy method to add decoration to a pot.\npaper transfers\n slip trailing\n\n\nWeek 3: Decorating Bisqueware\n\nbubble glazing\nvinyl resist and car tape\nwax resist\n\n\nWeek 4; Final glazing of all the projects – focus on dipping and pouring of studio glazes.\n\nPotters will be supplied with extruded tubes\, most likely using recycled clay\,  on which to practice these techniques. At the begiing of the class we will add bottoms to the tubes so that they can be used as vases. If you would like to use a piece you made in open studio\, you are more than welcome to do that too. I do not anticipate that we will be using the wheel for any of these methods of decoration.  \nThis workshop will take place August 5\, 12\, 19\, and 26 from 6 – 8 pm.  \nIf you sign up for this class\, the homework for the first class is to bring in a picture of each of the techniques listed of anther potter who used that process as inspiration. \nTo sign up for this class\, click here\nPlease review my studio rules before committing to this class.\n
