SUMMARY:Make a Spaghetti Bowl
DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner class – no experience needed!  All ages over 12 years welcome! (Younger children should be accompanied) Even if you are experienced\, though\, this will still be a great class! \nJoin us on June 5 and 12 from 3-5  pm to make a bowl\, decorated with leaves – or use a rolling pin for beautiful texture!  This bowl\, which is about 10 inches wide\, and is oven and dishwasher safe\, microwavable and food safe. It is deep\, making it a good spaghetti bowl. If you don’t want to use leaves\, you could use any of the 20 rolling pins of the studio to make a texture. Pictured below is the mushroom rolling pin.  \nDuring this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own bowl.  The first day\, which will take about 1 hour\,  we will make the bowl. The bowl is made from a slab of clay\, molded\, and then finished on the wheel. Once the bowl is made\, you can finish it any way you want. A number of different methods of decorating  will be covered\, including use of texture with rolling pins\, or using leaves.   The focus will be on leaves and you are encouraged to bring your own. The second scheduled day\, you will glaze the bowl. Two different methods of glazing will be covered – the first you wipe back the glaze\, highlighting the “fossil” left by the  leaf\, the second\, you can paint each individual leaf. Depending on which method you choose\, the second class could take an hour to 2 hours. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 3 weeks of you finishing it.  \n \nThe workshop will take place June 5 and 12  from  3 -5  pm.  \nThe class is limited to 6 people.  \nPrevious student work: \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\nI have been teaching pottery and ceramics in a variety of situations\, for all age groups\, for more than 40 years. SUMMARY:Slow Sunday - Leaf Tray
DESCRIPTION:This is an easy project – great for all ages – that will result in an easy\, very functional tray. Perfect for a sandwich with chips\, or a block of cheese and crackers. Next time you have friends over\, won’t it be great to serve your cheese and crackers on a tray you made! It will be dishwasher safe\, oven proof\, and microwavable.  \nThis Sunday\, June 14\, you will be provided with a slab of clay\, big enough to cover a tray mold. Into that slab of clay\, you will press leaves\, either those you collected yourself\, or others that I will collect. You will take that slab of clay and press it into mold\, creating a tray shape. Come back later this summer and glaze it. You will be provided with either brown\, black or green underglazes\, which are applied and then wiped back\, showing all the wonderful fine detail of the leaf. It is like exposing a fossil! The tray is then finished wth a clear glaze. The tray is about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide.  \nIf so desired\, you can take more time and add applique detail around the edges. For instance\, you could roll a leaf into the clay then cut around the leaf\, and attach it to the tray\, creating a 3 d detail. You could also use any of the roping silicone molds to add detail to the edges of the tray.  \nThis is the project for June 14 from 2 – 4 pm.  Pay cash at the door or pay online. If paying on line\, refunds will be given with a week’s notice\, or if I am able to fill your seat prior to the workshop. Class will be limited to 10 people. \nAttending Slow Sunday does not meet the pre-requisites for attending open studio.  \nPlease familiarize yourself with the studio rules before signing up. \n \n  \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Make a Fairy House
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun activity for all ages. Bright colors and  a fun design will add a bit of whimsy to your garden for the summer!  They could also be used as a luminary. \nThis is a 2 day workshop. The first day\, June 18\, we will make the fairy house. Depending on how much detail you add to your house it will likely take the full 2 hours. You will be shown how to make the base house – the detail you add is up to you. The base will be made using a cone mold. The detail you will add using the left over clay from the 8 x 12 rectangle of clay provided. Fondant molds of flowers\, butterflies\, and leaves\, make the decorating easy. You will then come back a week later to paint it. It will likely take the full 2 hours to paint\, depending on how much detail you add. \nThe houses will then need to be fired\, and will be ready for pick up within 3 weeks. These houses will be fine to leave outside  during the summer\, but once the temperatures start freezing\, they need to come in.  \nI  have included a picture of houses I found on the internet\, as well as one that I made. I stupidly downloaded the picture without taking notes of who made it\, so I can not give credit. \nThis workshop will take place June 18 and 25 from 10 am to 12 noon. \nPlease familiarize yourself with the studio rules before committing to this class.

SUMMARY:Raku Open Studio - June
DESCRIPTION:Last summer we had so much fun with raku. Our hope is to do that again this summer. This is our kickoff class. \nYou have seen the fun on “The Great Pottery Throwdown”. Now you can try it yourself! A fun way to end the work week. There are no prerequisites to attend this workshop. \nThis will be run the same as the regular open studio – with a couple of differences: \n\nclay limited to 3 pounds. Given the small size of the actual raku kiln\, items made will be limited in size. Please try to keep your pieces no bigger than 6″ x 6″. No more than 3 pieces. \nwheels are not guaranteed – I have found \, though\, that potters are very good about sharing resources. If you choose to make something on the wheel\, there will be no opportunity to trim your pots\, so you need to throw it \nthere are no prerequisites\, but you should have experience working with clay. \nAt least 4 people need to sign up for the class to take place. \nif you are a regular open studio attendee\, you will not be able to work with your raku piece during regular open studio times. Raku clay has a different firing temperature and it is important that the regular studio clay does not mix with the raku clay. The studio is also too small to pull out raku materials during regular open studio. \n\nThis workshop is for Friday June 19  from 3 – 5  pm. \n\n\nThe next raku firings will tentatively take place Friday evening July 24 from 5 – 8  pm-dependenton: \n\nAre there enough pieces to fill the kiln?\nIs the weather suitable? ( no rain in the forecast\, not too hot\, not too cold\, not too windy)\nAre there enough folks to help with the firing? At least 6 are needed\n\nThe rain date will be the following Friday at the same time. \nPlease familiarize yourself with the studio rules before committing to this class.\n  \nTo sign up for this workshop click here\n \n
