SUMMARY:Rhubarb Leaf Bird Bath
DESCRIPTION:What could be more beautiful in your garden than a birdbath you created yourself! Using rhubarb (or you could choose burdock) leaves from my garden (you are welcome to bring your own\, but my kiln is only so big\, so the leaves can be no bigger than 15 inches in any direction) you will make a clay fossil of the leaf. We will then form the leaf around a mold in order to give it depth so it can hold water. Two weeks later \, July 15\, you will come back and glaze your leaf. Rhubarb and burdock have wonderful veining\, so will will talk about ways to highlight or accentuate the veins using glazes.  This workshop will take place July 1 and 15  from 6 – 8 pm.  \nTo reserve your seat\, click here\nPlease review my studio rules before committing to this class.

SUMMARY:Make a Spaghetti Bowl - July
DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner class – no experience needed!  All ages over 12 years welcome! (Younger children should be accompanied)  \nJoin us on July 11 and 18 from 4 – 6 pm to make the plate shown\, or one very similar\, that reflects your very own creativity!  This plate\, which is about 9 inches wide\, and is oven and dishwasher safe\, microwavable and food safe. It is deep\, bowl like\, making it a good spaghetti bowl. \nDuring this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own plate.  The first day\, which will take about 2 hours\, we will make the plate\, and cover different ways to decorate it. The plate is made from a slab of clay\, molded\, and then finished on the wheel. Once the plate is made\, you can finish it any way you want. A number of different methods of decorating  will be covered\, including use of texture\, use of underglazes and stencils\, and sgraffito\, a popular Italian method of decorating pottery (as shown on the plate pictured).  The focus will be on using the sgraffito method\,  you can finish it as you like\, but the class focus will be on creating a  concentric sgraffito design of black\, white\, and a minimal amount of red as accent. The second scheduled day\, we will finish the plate. Depending on how much is done the first class\, the second class could take an hour to 2 hours. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 3 weeks of you finishing it.  \nThe workshop will take place July 11 and 18  from 4 – 6  pm. The first class will be very short – a little over an hour.  Options for decorating the outside of the bowl will also be covered.  The second class will likely take the full 2 hours\, depending on how you decide to glaze it.  \nThe class is limited to 6 people. Grab a friend and have some fun\, then plan a great dinner out at any of Groton’s wonderful restaurants. \nPrevious student work: \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\nI have been teaching pottery and ceramics in a variety of situations\, for all age groups\, for more than 30 years. SUMMARY:Make a Planter - July
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a plant that you love and want to create a planter that will show off just how unique or pretty it is? \nJoin us Friday evenings in July for this beginner class to make a planter.  The planter will feature a textured outside and attached saucer for drainage. You can add holes to make it a hanging planter\, or just leave it to sit beautifully on your table or windowsill. The planter will be a maximum of 7 inches tall by 5 inches wide – you can make it smaller\, if needed. We’ll use different items to add texture to the outside for visual interest – or you can leave it plain and just let the glaze do its magic. The planter will be made using slabs of clay and molds\, but finished on the wheel.  The class will be limited to 6 students and will involve sharing of the wheels. \nThe class will meet two days. The first day we will make the planter. You will then come back the following week to glaze the planter. The days will be Friday\, July 12 and 19 from 6- 8  pm. The first class will likely take the full 2 hours\, the second class\, in which you will glaze the planter choosing from the hundreds of possible color combinations\,  will probably be just one hour. \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n\nYour planter will be ready for pick up within 3 weeks following the last class. \nTo reserve your seat\, click here\nPlease familiarize yourself with my rules of the studio before committing to this class.

SUMMARY:Drop In Sunday - Leaf Bowl
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 14\, we will be making a ceramic bowl from a large  leaf. There will be burdock\, catalpa\, and hosta eaves available to choose from. Use it as a trinket dish\, or to eat out of. The pictured holds smaller dishes that could be used to hold butter\, or as chop stick holders. \nYou will be provided with a slab of clay\, about 8 x 11. You can choose a leaf that will be provided\, or bring your own\, but do not bring a leaf bigger than 11 inches. You will roll your leaf into the clay\, in effect creating a fossil of the leaf. You will then drape your leaf over a form creating a bowl shape. With the left over clay\, you can make smaller leaves as shown. (Only those items that keep with the theme will be fired) \n \nThe cost is $15.  \nCome back in two weeks to glaze your bowl. You will be provided with our full palette of underglazes\, which are best to highlight the veins of the leaf\, or use one of our studio greens or brown glazes. \n \n  \nYour leaf bowl will be ready for pick up  within 3 weeks from glazing. This is the project for Sunday 7/14. The drop in workshop is offered from 2  – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about half an hour to make the bowl. You can come any time between those hours – just plan on half an hour to make the bowl. A different project will be offered every weekend. Once glazed and fired the pots will be dishwasher safe\, microwaveable and oven proof. \nTo reserve your seat click here\nPlease familiarize yourself with studio rules
