SUMMARY:Make a Tray - April
DESCRIPTION:Beautiful and functional…what could be better? Using a mold and a slab of clay\, you will make a tray that reflects your own creativity. This is a two day event. The first day we will make the tray\, and decorate with stamps to provide texture\, or you can use one of the many rolling pins I have with beautiful unique textures. You can add handles…or not. The second day\, the following week\, you will glaze your tray. Choose from hundreds of possible glaze combinations. The first day will likely take the full two hours as contemplating the many ways to decorate takes time. The second week\, when you will glaze your tray\, will take around an hour. The tray is dishwasher safe\, microwavable\, and ovenproof\, if protected from thermal shock. The tray is about 12 x 8 by about 1 inch deep. \nThe class will take place Friday\, April 5 and 12 from 6 – 8 pm. The class will be limited to 8 people. \nThe finished tray will make a great charcuterie board – how fun that you can say to your guests that not only did you make the great display of food – but you also made the tray! \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n\nPlease review my studio rules before committing to this class. \nTo reserve a seat\, click here.\n

SUMMARY:Make a Spaghetti Bowl - April
DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner class – no experience needed!  All ages over 12 years welcome! (Younger children should be accompanied)  \nJoin us on April 17 and 24  from 11 am to 1 pm to make the plate shown\, or one very similar\, that reflects your very own creativity!  This plate\, which is about 9 inches wide\, and is oven and dishwasher safe\, microwavable and food safe. It is deep\, bowl like\, making it a good spaghetti bowl. \nDuring this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own plate.  The first day\, which will take about 2 hours\, we will make the plate\, and cover different ways to decorate it. The plate is made from a slab of clay\, molded\, and then finished on the wheel. Once the plate is made\, you can finish it any way you want. A number of different methods of decorating  will be co vered\, including use of texture\, use of underglazes and stencils\, and sgraffito\, a popular Italian method of decorating pottery (as shown on the plate pictured).  The focus will be on using the sgraffito method\,  you can finish it as you like\, but the class focus will be on creating a  concentric sgraffito design of black\, white\, and a minimal amount of red as accent. The second scheduled day\, we will finish the plate. Depending on how much is done the first class\, the second class could take an hour to 2 hours. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 3 weeks of you finishing it.  \nThe workshop will take place April 17 and 24  from 11 am to 1 pm. The first class will be very short – a little over an hour.  Options for decorating the outside of the bowl will also be covered.  The second class will likely take the full 2 hours.  \nThe class is limited to 6 people. Grab a friend and have some fun\, then plan a great lunch out at any of Groton’s wonderful restaurants. \nPrevious student work: \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\nI have been teaching pottery and ceramics in a variety of situations\, for all age groups\, for more than 30 years. SUMMARY:Chicken or Owl Salt and Pepper Shakers
DESCRIPTION:One more chicken themed drop in! During this April 21 Sunday drop in\, you will be given enough clay\, and a template to make two of either a chicken or owl salt and pepper shakers. Or\, you could live on the edge and make one of each! The shakers will be about 3 inches high and the body of which about two inches in diameter.  If you are truly daring\, you could make any type of creature with the clay given – but it must be a salt and pepper shaker. The reason it needs to be a salt and pepper shaker  is that there is a wonderful creative process in the shared experience.  \nCome back in two weeks and glaze it. You can choose between white\, brown\, or use an underglaze\, more or less a complete color palette\,  with a clear gloss coat to add color. \nYou can pick up your salt and pepper shakers within 3 weeks from when you glaze it. \nThis is the project for Sunday 4/21. The drop in workshop is offered from 2 – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about an hour to make both the salt and pepper shakers. A different project will be offered each week. \nPayment may be made through this website or at the door with cash. Attending a drop in studio does not count towards the prerequisite requirements for attending open studio.  \nTo pre-buy for this drop in workshop\, click here\nPlease familiarize your self with my studio rules. \n

SUMMARY:Drop In Sunday - Make a Planter / Sponge Holder
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nDuring this April 28 Sunday drop in\, you will be a slab of clay\, about 8.5 x 11\, and a template to make either a sponge holder or a small cup/pot into which you could put a plant.  \nThe process is to take a slab of clay\, and wrap it around a small can.  Add detail\, such as a face made of clay\, or leave it plain. You could cut slits in it\, as the one pictured has\, and use it as a sponge holder\, or leave it whole\, and it could be used as a small planter. Once you put the plant in it\, the plant becomes the hair!  \nCome back in two weeks and glaze it. You can choose between white\, green or blue glaze\, or use an underglaze\, more or less a complete color palette\,  and top with a clear gloss coat. \nYou can pick up your sponge holder/planter within 3 weeks from when you glaze it. \nThis is the project for Sunday 4/28. The drop in workshop is offered from 2 – 4 pm.  It will probably take you about an hour to make the planter. A different project will be offered each week. \nPayment may be made through this website or at the door with cash. Attending a drop in studio does not count towards the prerequisite requirements for attending open studio.  \nTo pre-buy a seat\, click here.\n \nPlease familiarize your self with my studio rules.
