SUMMARY:Open Studio - Jan 5
DESCRIPTION:This will be a test for the month of January to see if there is any interest in an open studio during the day on Thursdays. The time will be from 10:30 am – 1 pm.  \nFeeling creative!? Join us Thursdays from 10:30 – 1 pm to make your own creations. I will be available to provide technical assistance for you to achieve your clay ideas. Pretty much no limit on what you can make.  \nThis will be a test run for the month of January\, where clay and materials are  included in the price.  If you make something at home\, or take something home to work on\, you will be charged an additional fee for glazes and/or  firing.  If you have never done an open studio before\, it is good to come to the workshop with the intention of making 3 things (3 plates\, mugs\, bowls…) You may not make all 3\, but you will get a good start on them. I will help you with technical advice for construction of your design.  If you plan to work on the wheel\, you need to plan on at least 2 more open studios\, one more to trim your pots\, and a final one to glaze.  \nPrerequisite: 2 previous classes or workshops with me\, or a completed 4 week or more class. Limit of 4 people per class.  \nThis workshop is best for students who can work independently\, and are comfortable with the rules of the studio. \nClick here to reserve a seat.\n

SUMMARY:Make a Fruit Bowl
DESCRIPTION:This is the first time offering this class. It is a variation of the “make a spaghetti bowl” class. Using the same mold and process\, we will instead cut the clay creating a bowl with a carved design. Templates will be provided\, or you can create your own design.  \nThe off white bowls are the size and shape of the bowl we will be making. The white bowl with circle cuts pictured is one I made\, using the mold you will use. We will be working with speckled clay\, that seems to crack less than the white clay I have. It has a more rustic appearance – which goes really well with a simple white or off white glaze\, allowing the clay’s speckles to burst through. (I have more bowls in process that will done soon and I will post pictures.) \nBy artist MaryLaabs on Etsy\nJoin us on January 20 and 27 from 6 – 8 pm to make a fruit bowl that reflects your very own creativity!  This bowl\, which is about 9 inches wide\, will be oven and dishwasher safe\, microwavable and food safe. It is about 2 inches deep making it suitable as a fruit bowl. \nDuring this 2 day workshop you will be led through the steps to make your very own bowl.  The first day\, which will take about 2 hours\, we will make the bowl\, and cover different ways to decorate it. The plate is made from a slab of clay\, molded\, and then finished on the wheel. Once the plate is made\, you will cut and carve the clay.  You can come prepared with your own design\, or use templates and various fondant cutters I have. The second scheduled day\, we will finish the bowl. Depending on how much is done the first class\, the second class could take an hour to 2 hours. Your plate will be ready for you to take home within 3 weeks of you finishing it.  \nThe workshop will take place January 20 and 27 from 6 – 8 m. Adults only please since we will be using very sharp exacto knives for cutting.  \nTo reserve your seat\, click here.\nPlease review studio rules and masking requirements prior to signing up. \nFruit bowl by JensTurnPOttery on Etsy
