Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt is done for 2025, but I hope to be back with new challenges in 2026.

Three trails are done with coins planted!

Take a little time to get outside with your family and friends and enjoy some of Groton’s greatest assets – its open space. Learn about its biodiversity while enjoying the natural beauty. Bring the kids along and make it a game – let them see if they can find the hidden coins.

Each trail will have 5 identified items, or caches, that will need to be discovered on the trails. These are likely to be natural items, a plant, a cave, etc., or an historical feature. Each item will have ceramic coins stashed at the site, which participants will collect, and then bring back to Prescott, to have their finds recorded. If you collect all 5 coins, you will be entered into a drawing to win a mug that will have the Groton Trails logo, as well as the name of the trail on which the coins were found. If you find the fifth coin, in other words, there is only one coin left on the ring, bring the ring and coin back to Prescott. I don’t expect to have more than 5 folks participating per trail, but should there be more than 5, I will make a mug for every group of 5.

The plan is to have winners announced at Grotonfest by the folks of the Groton Trails committee. At this point, I am behind in all aspects of getting this done – but the hope is to add a new trail at least every week through the summer.

If you plan to participate, July and August are buggy with biting deer flies, and of course, there are the ever present ticks. Dress appropriately and take precautions. Please only take one coin so that others can play along too. (Making the coins took hours of time by a host of volunteers – thanks Old School Clay Potters and Friends!).

Please reach out to me if you encounter any problems.

Happy hunting!
