Rhubarb Leaf Bird Bath

This has been one of our most poular workshops, and I nearly forgot to include it in this summer’s offering.  

We will take a rhubarb leaf, or burdock (which has even better veining in the leaf, imo), and press clay onto the leaf creating an impression or fossil of the leaf. It is then draped over a mold, creating depth, so it can be used as a bowl or birdbath. Once finished the bowl is microwaveable, dishwasher safe or ovenproof,  if protected from thermal shock. It can not be left outside once the weather starts freezing, as it will likely lead to the bowl cracking. Most of the bowls have been well over a foot in diameter. 

The first day of the workshop, June 20,  we will create the bowl. The second day, July 11, 3 weeks later, you will come back to glaze your bowl. This workshop takes place over 2 days, June 20 and July 11, from 2 – 4 pm.
