Description
Sunday, November 17, we will be making ceramic trees that are cone shaped and can be used as luminaires. Use it to decorate your holiday table, mantle, or add it as a focal point for a seasonal bouquet.
You will be provided with a slab of clay, and a paper stencil. You can add texture using any one of the more than 20 rolling pins in the studio. You will then trace around the stencil on the clay, and then fold the clay up to make the cone shape. Cut out holes and it can be used as a luminaire. Add a star or bird on top, or leave it plain.
Folding the clay up to make the cone shape is a little bit tricky, so it may not be an appropriate activity for the very young, but I will leave it to you to decide what your child can do or can’t do. (It is basically the same process that was used to make the ghost)
The cost is $15.
Come back in 2 weeks to glaze your tree. Three colors of green or white will be available for glazing, or use our nearly full pallette of underglazes for color.
Your tree will be ready for pick up within 3 weeks from glazing. This is the project for Sunday 11/17. The drop in workshop is offered from 2 – 4 pm. It will probably take you about half an hour to make the tree. You can come any time between those hours – just plan on half an hour to make the tree. A different project will be offered every weekend. Projects for the fall include pumpkins, tree luminaires, pine tree stands and other holiday oriented projects. Once glazed and fired the pots will be dishwasher safe, microwaveable and oven proof.
